A Psalm of Thanksgiving
For all of my US readers, I would like to wish you a happy Thanksgiving.
Today as I meditated on the Thanksgiving holiday, it struck me what the word means. I know it is an event that happened in history, the pilgrims and such. However, when I explored the meaning of the word, I recognized two separate expressions, thanks, and giving. I always feel that we should give to others, not only money, but time, compassion, and help when someone needs it; nevertheless the word thanks is what the Holy Spirit led me to talk about in this blog.
One of the meanings of thanks that Webster’s dictionary gives is an acknowledgment of appreciation. How excellent it is to be thankful to God for everything that we have. Although we might not have all that we want and every night we pray for God to bless us in our desires, we should always remember how beautiful He is and that He has chosen us as His children.
1st Thessalonians 5: 18 tells us “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Personally, I give God thanks for being able to share my thoughts of encouragement freely with you today. I will confess that I too have things I am also praying for, so I have not attained everything God has for me; however, I believe in God’s grace, mercy, and love and I have faith that tomorrow will be better than today. Every day, he nudges me closer to the desires I have in my heart by the blessings he is supplying me. Therefore I can truthfully speak of hope and God’s great love so that everyone reading my blog can have optimism in their futures.
Even if you think you have nothing and feel you are in a bad place in life, if you are reading this blog there is a reason to thank God. You have access to some type of internet device, and there are so many people who don’t. You might not have the best I phone, tablet, computer, laptop, etc., and your internet service might be so slow it takes you several minutes for a page to load, but be thankful that you have a device and internet access.
1st Peter 5:6 “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
I know that sometimes it seems hard to be thankful when you meditate on your circumstances and focus your thoughts on the situations of others around you, but remember God is always with you and He is in control. When you give Him access to your life, He has plans to provide you with all the desires of your heart. All you need to do is follow His guidance and seek out His assistance in all things. God will give you blessings beyond anything that you can imagine.
Don’t let jealousy or envy fill your hearts because we are all in the same place. The God of this world is attempting to take away everyone’s peace, but we must hold on to God’s love and remember He is there.
Jeremiah 17:6 “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”
Palsm 31:19 “Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!’
