Words Stings But They are Not Necessary True
Talking with one of my friends a couple of days, she said to me, “I am just a bad seed.” I know she said this jokingly but I began to wonder, how many of us truly think of ourselves as bad seeds, because someone has labeled us.
Maybe someone important to you told you negative things when you were a child, and even as an adult others continued with their negative, hurtful words, wounding you further with each word that rolled off their poisonous tongue. Words like, you will never be anything, you are stupid, you should have never been born, or even attack your physical appearance. Or maybe you have done things to others that hurt them, and your thoughts label you. What matters is, know that those words are not true; you don’t have to remain or be that person, and you are not that person. If you feel you are, God wants to bring you out.
We live our lives and carry these debilitating labels proudly sometimes when we should realize that they are just words. No man can determine our destiny in our free world today, or tell us who we are. We hold our true identity in our hearts regardless of our physical situation. However, if we listen and let the unkind words take root within us, we can truly become who they say we are. I carried some of these labels for many years until I realized that when I accepted Jesus, my life changed, and God changed me on the inside; he cleansed my spirit and gave me a newness of life.
Yes, nothing on my outside changed at the moment, and the struggles of life and struggles against my on human nature continue. My strength and love for myself grew, and now I know there is a HOPE, and THAT carries me forward.
For my friends that are struggling with labels, as I did, please know that God is there to help you, and just because someone said you were something that does not make it true.
