Words of Hope and Faith for the Weary

Think Positive, Think God

Think Positive, Think God

A couple of days ago while I walked my newest puppy, a gloomy presence stirred up within my soul trying to create a depression within me. As I strolled down our normal route, almost oblivious to my surrounding and lost in my misery, my little puppy pranced alongside me stopping every now and then to smell something along the way. Gross, but that’s what dogs do, smiles. Self-pity over my latest stressor, I reran the whole dreadful incident over and over in my mind. You see, my dog Toby died; his sudden sickness initiated him having to be put down which caused me and my husband sorrow. Toby was a part of my household for over fifteen years, and became my husband’s work companion.

I will confess that Toby possessed my heart. He was a part of my life through many good times, and hardships, which included many physical relocations, and the loss of some relationships. He started out with me in Yukon Canada, braved my insanity in the many stops along the way, and finally he, my mother, my other pup Telee and I ended up in Vancouver BC. Besides grief over his death, I meditated on the fact that I had also lost my mother and my other pup within the last ten months; my psyche encouraged a sickness within me.

Regardless of all of the blessings that God has given to me, I have find that when I allow negative contemplations take over my attentions, such as I did at this time, God’s goodness can sometime disappear behind a cloak of unhappiness. Thank God, the story does not stop there. As I walked along, the Holy Spirit rebuked me; ultimately reflections of his great love and mercy arose within me, hindering the illusion of defeat and depression that my mind and senses tried to throng against me. Essentially, a spontaneous preview of some of the many true miracles God had given me flooded through my thoughts allowing me, to again, to see his promises of peace and jubilation.

Hebrews 1:9 (KJV) “therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness.” This scripture was given to me, and the Joy of God began to rise within me.

The Holy Spirit, in this brief instance, showed me how the love, joy, and peace of God inhibits our spirits when Jesus is made our Lord and Savior, although this harmonious union might appear hidden by sorrow and pain. It is up to me and you, not to allow depressive feelings or thoughts of defeat to annihilate the pleasure in our souls. Consider the truth, death is an unfortunate circumstance upon the earth, for the reason of Adam transgression, and everyone will experience it in one form or another. But when Jesus is made the center of a life, He delivers peace within the heart.

Colossians 3:15 (KJV) And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

The key to peace, when it is locked so deep within us that no physical presence or substance can provide an ease to our troubled mind, is right before us. But since God is the true gentleman He is, He will not seize upon our thoughts to make us feel better; nevertheless, gently His Holy Spirit directs us along the pathway to find it.

Remember his words.  Philippians 4:8-9 (NKJV) “8[powr-rss-feed id=0ced4160_1469048422922][powr-twitter-feed id=be0596f1_1469048438497]meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”

When these times come, we have to imprison our own thoughts as if they are alien to us, and remember what God has done to keep peace within our minds. When we mediate upon God’s prior blessings, and His scriptures it helps our strength and faith in Him to grow, and we no longer look to ourselves or our circumstances. The world knows this, they call it “the power of positive thinking,” but our positive deliberations or thoughts comes from meditating on God’s “blessing and promises.” So keep your thoughts focused on God, he will help you out.
