Through Rose Colored Glasses
I did not know how poor I was, unhappy I was, or how stupid my dream was until you told me.
This morning as I sat thinking about an old movie I watched, “Romi and Michelle’s High School Reunion,” I was touched by a statement that Michelle said, “….until you told me that our lives weren’t good enough, I thought everything since high school was a blast.” Everything was great for her but her roommate and longtime friend did not agree that their lives together was good, or fun. Romi also disregarded the precious friendship the two of them shared too, and she took away Michelle’s rose-colored glasses view.
Somewhat like Michelle, so many of us were happy with the simple things of life and the love that we received was enough, until someone told us that it was not enough. Someone told us our dream was stupid, we were ugly, or we just did not have what it takes. They took away our rose-colored glasses and made us look at the world through dissatisfaction, misery, and sometimes fear. Which indeed is truly a sad thing when there is so much good and love out there.
It took me a while to see that people and their instructions, or beliefs, whether well meaning or not, were not the best for me and that I should follow my true self; that small part of me that God lives in and directs. God gives me that identity, and when I allow him, the precious Holy Spirit slowly mends my shattered soul making me whole again. He has returned my desire to share His Great Love through the written word.
Joy in daily circumstances, peace, and contentment comes, and the knowledge that God is with us, in fact, it is a medicine which can cure our ills, laughter is contagious. Put on your rose-colored glasses, laughter and joy take away stress, and we know stress causes serious health problems.
Pro 15:13 “A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.”
The love of God through Jesus always leads to a good outcome and we can expect Him to help us reach our heart’s desires when we believe that He will. The view of life through rose-colored glasses does not mean life is seen through nativity or stupidity, but it is being led by the wisdom of God and that knowledge gives you and abundant, happy life.
Pro 2:6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
Beware though, this wisdom us usually contrary to the feeling of those around you, and sometimes those whom we love.
1Co 3:19 “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.”
Hold on to your dream, God sees you and he loves you.
